Day 1Arrival In Cusco

Upon arrival at the airport in Cusco, you will be welcomed by our personnel and taken to your hotel. Free evening to explore the historic centre of Cusco on your own.

Day 2City Tour In Cusco + 4 Ruins

Today you will make a guided city tour in Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire. You start visiting the cathedral, which is located on the Plaza de Armas, the main square in Cusco. Inside the impressive building you can find many paintings of the Cusco School. Afterwards you go to the church Santo Domingo, where once was located the Temple of the Sun in the Inca period, also known as Qorikancha. Then you leave the historic centre to visit the four Inca ruins in the surroundings of Cusco: Kenko, Tambomachay, Puka Pukara and the stunning fortress Sacsayhuamán. Finally you return to your hotel. Rest of the day free.

Day 3Cusco (3350 M) – Km 82 – Huayllabamba (2850 M)

Early in the morning you go by car to km 84 of the railway from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu. From there you start hiking on the Inca Trail passing a suspension bridge over the River Vilcanota. You follow the course of the river and reach the Inca site of Llactapata. Then you enter a valley and finally go to Huayllabamba, where you spend the night in a tent.
Duration of the hike: 5 – 6 hours

Day 4Huayllabamba (2850 M) – Warmiwañusqa (4200 M) – Pacaymayo (3550 M)

After breakfast you follow the ascending path, which leads through a luxuriant vegetation, until you reach the Puna, which is a high plateau where you will find a meagre landscape and plants that are adapted to the height. You continue hiking along the ascending path and finally arrive at the pass called Abra de Warmiñusca (4200 m), which is the highest spot of the Inca Trail. Then you go to a camping ground, which is located at the bank of a mountain brook and where you will spend the night.
Duration of the hike: 6 – 7 hours

Day 5Pacamayo (3550 M) – Wiñay Wayna (2700 M)

Today you hike to the second pass, which is called Abra de Runkuraqay (3998 m). Then you follow a path which leads you downwards into the cloud forest. There you will discover the Inca ruins of Sayaqmarca, built on a hill. Afterwards you continue on the same path until reaching the impressive Inca site of Wiñay Wayna (2700 m). In this magical place you will find well preserved terraces and spend the night.
Duration of the hike: 7 – 8 hours.

Day 6Wiñay Wayna (2700 M) – Machu Picchu (2400 M) – Aguas Calientes (2040 M) – Cusco Machu Picchu

Early in the morning you go to Intipunku, the Sun Gate, which is located close to Machu Picchu. If the weather is clear, you have a magnificent view of Machu Picchu from this spot. Then, after walking half an hour, you finally arrive in Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Inca. Upon your arrival you start to explore the archaeological complex, still covered by the morning mist, built on top of a ridge and surrounded by precipices: a stunning view that evolves with the progression of the sun. You will walk about the quarters, squares, alleys and observatories of the citadel. In the afternoon you take the bus downhill to Aguas Calientes and the train to Poroy.* Upon your arrival our personnel will pick you up and take you to your hotel in Cusco.

* During the train ride Aguas Calientes – Poroy you are not allowed to take a large suitcase with you. The maximum weight of the allowed luggage is 5 kilograms. So please just take a backpack with you and leave the bigger part of your luggage in your hotel in Cusco until your return.

Duration of the hike: 2 hours

Machu Picchu can only be visited during one of the following time frames:

Either from 06:00 till 12:00 o’clock
Or from 12:00 till 17:30 o’clock

Please note that it is not allowed to visit Machu Picchu without a guide and to bring tripods for cameras or food with you.

Option: Entrance to Huayna Picchu „young summit“ or to the mountain of Machu Picchu (not included)
